Sachiko Furuhata-Kersting

Choices Available Productions [U.K.] present the international concert pianist Sachiko Furuhata-Kersting for her debut performance in Ireland.  She will perform a solo programme of music by Frédéric Chopin on a Steinway grand piano.

Sachiko regularly performs in Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the U.S. – she gave a solo recital in New York’s Carnegie Hall in November 2018 – and in her native Japan.  In 2012, she was appointed a Steinway Artist, the prestigious designation bestowed by Steinway and Sons of New York and Hamburg.

Her major city debuts include Munich [2011], Suntory Hall in Tokyo [2012], London [2013], Basel [2014], Luxembourg, Cardiff, Edinburgh and New York [2017].  In addition to solo recitals she performs with several international orchestras including the Russian State Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Palatinate Theatre, the Osaka Chamber Orchestra and the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie.

Sachiko’s wide repertory spans classical and romantic pieces from Chopin, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt, as well as composers from Impressionism and Expressionism.

Her CDs are produced by the renwoned classic label, Oehms Classic. Her latest CD presents works by Beethoven and Schumann, and won won the ‘Music Arena Performance of the Year 2014’ award in Japan.

Born in Yokohama, Japan, Sachiko took her first piano lesson at the age of three. After winning the ‘New Pianist’ competition in Japan, she came to Germany to study at the music university in Detmold and at the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf. Her teachers were Arnulf v. Arnim, Roberto Szidon, Detlev Kraus, Naoyuki Taneda and Willem Brons. She also took masterclasses in Salzburg (Prof. Liske), Weimar (Prof. Ringeissen) and Sion, Switzerland (Prof. Szidon).

She now lives in Germany.
